WN JOHARA ALJASSIMYA

‘Jojo” is a daughter of WH Justice and is the dam of Wakil Aljassimya.

Owned and ridden by Lilia Lucero, California. Jojo was tested as a weanling for Cerebellar Abiotrophy and it was found she that she carries two faulty genes CA+ CA+.   She was turned out to pasture with her age group to have a normal life until the usual CA symptoms appeared – tremors, wobbling, poor balance and eventually frequent falling over. At this point she would have been put to sleep. As each year passed there was never any sign and still, 10 years later she is one of the very few lucky ones who do not develop symptoms.

However with that genetic test in black and white it was never possible to sell her, and she was rehomed in California with Lilia Lucero at three years old, after two Al Ayal AA embryos were taken. Lilia broke her to ride in the back yard and they both started their endurance careers together. They began patiently, both learning along the way,  and started to rack up the miles as an endurance pair.  They are now at 820 AERC miles and 3rd in the Lightweight division for the Southern California and Nevada Region, one of the most competitive Endurance divisions in the US, placed behind two very experienced competitors.

Lilia and Jojo have a special bond, the Justice horses are all people lovers, but this mare is one of a kind! When I bought Wakil as a foal, I drove the 200 miles into the desert to have another look at his dam and when I watched her with her new owner, knew that these two had found their partner of a lifetime. Lilia and I became friends and she said to me early on that the Tevis Cup was her dream, and having shared that fantasy a long time ago, I followed their career with interest, just as she has followed Wakil’s!  Even though Wakil is no longer mine and will soon be on his way to Brazil, I was fascinated by the prospect of having a horse who is ‘modern’ pretty having a dam with cast iron performance credentials. For me this is what the Arabian horse is all about.

In fact Jojo has already achieved those credentials – in 2023 she completed 8 rides out of 8 attempted, with a win in one 55 mile race and a successful completion of a rocky hill terrain race.  Jojo and Lilia are now qualified to attempt the Tevis Cup next year and are endurance riders in the original sprit of the sport with a small backyard with three horses in it – and only one endurance horse. The one man / one horse team is better suited to the rigours of the Tevis Cup, which with its extreme mountain trail, it requires you know the horse you are riding intimately, it is not a fast flat track for large interchangeable teams to ride strange horses on. The. motto for the ride is “To Finish is To Win” Last year one pair had to be rescued by helicopter after falling of a narrow mountain side track – and I am sure you are all familiar with the images of Cougar Rock!

Endurance is not a cheap sport and to take her to the next phase – Lilia has asked if I can help her find some sponsorship to cover some of the costs for attempting the ride.  This includes getting to and completing the mountain terrain races she will need to complete before the Tevis itself.

I asked her for an honest assessment of the costs specific to the Tevis, which will include making sure she travels across State to train in the mountains up until the Tevis Cup 2024 on July 20th.

PEDIGREE

By WH Justice

fWH Justice is known as “The Champion Maker” and has indeed sired many very, very famous Arabian show horses such as World Champions CR Jasmeenah, Bess Fa’izah and the Silver World Champion Shanghai EA. As the first generations got older, he then became equally influential on the dam’s side of the pedigree, with dozens of his daughters producing the next generations of champions.

Aljassimya Farm also took several of his get to US National honours in performance in Western and Hunter Pleasure.

Now 21 years old he is one of the legendary Arabian stallions of this century.
